The Creative Business Analyst

Many of us are familiar with the process of business analysis – start by gathering requirements from stakeholders then turn them into a specification which developers can understand. But what about the bit in the middle? The analysis and questioning of requirements – why this way, why not that way? This is the real value add that an analyst can bring to the table. It means challenging the status quo, pushing the boundaries, looking for creative solutions. Let's take a look at the links between business analysis and creativity - and how it can be applied to real world business problems.

Jan’s background covers over 30 years in the IT industry from operations, networking and management roles in the UK - British Oxygen Corporation, London Transport – through to technical, sales and project director roles in Australia for Alcatel and Fujitsu.

He’s acquired a detailed understanding of systems architecture and software development techniques plus managed a variety of projects from government outsourcing to technology refresh programs. In his role at IRM, Jan manages the delivery of business analysis courses to government, corporate and commercial clients as well as being one of IRM’s course designers. He’s authored a number of papers on business analysis topics, is an occasional lecturer at TAFE and holds a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training.
